A relaxed walk around the Square, or somewhere that already means something to the two of you, photographed the way it actually happens — no stiff poses, no counting to three.
What a session with me looks like
An engagement session is unhurried on purpose. We'll usually start somewhere easy — the brick storefronts and open green around Marietta Square work beautifully — then wander toward wherever feels like the two of you. Instead of poses to hold, I'll give you small, gentle prompts and photograph the in-between: the laughing, the leaning in, the quiet stretches where you forget the camera is there.
You'll come away with a gallery of high-resolution, naturally edited images, delivered online so they're simple to download and share. If a wedding is on the horizon, a session is also a low-pressure way for us to get used to working together before the day itself.
Why I keep it unposed
Posed photos can look great and still feel like someone else's afternoon. I work the other way — documentary, understated, staying out of the way so the hour sounds like the two of you and not like a photo shoot. Often the frames couples tell me they love most are ones they didn't know were being photographed: a real laugh, a hand on the back, the look right before a kiss.
Marietta makes that easy. The Square has warmth and texture without trying, and just outside town there are parks, gardens, and a river when you want something greener and quieter. We'll pick a spot that fits you, then let the afternoon do the rest.

If you'd rather have trees and open sky, there are parks, gardens, and a river a short drive from downtown. And if there's a spot that already means something to the two of you, we can build the session around that instead.
- What's the best time of day for engagement photos?
- The hour or so around sunrise or sunset — golden hour — gives the softest, most flattering light and the thinnest crowds, which matters on a busy Square. I'll suggest a start time based on the season and where we're shooting so the light is working for us, not against us.
- We're not photogenic and we hate posing. Is that a problem?
- That's most people, and honestly it's the whole point of working this way. You won't be asked to hold stiff poses or smile on command. I'll give you easy things to do — walk, talk, stay close, react to each other — and photograph what actually happens. Couples usually loosen up within the first few minutes.
- What do we get, and how soon do we see the photos?
- You'll receive a gallery of naturally edited, high-resolution images delivered online. What's included — the number of images, the turnaround, and print-and-share rights — varies by session, so I'll walk you through exactly what you get and when to expect your gallery before we book anything.
- Should we do an engagement session before the wedding?
- It helps more than most couples expect. Beyond the photos, it's a low-pressure hour to get comfortable in front of the camera and used to how I work, so the wedding day already feels familiar. It's also an easy way to gather images for save-the-dates or a guest sign-in book.
